The Texas Attorney General is a very influential position in state government, serving as the chief legal and law enforcement officer in the State of Texas. This position involves politics, administration, regulation, and enforcement skills. The attorney generalâ€™s duties are wide in breadth, and include defending the laws and the constitution of Texas, regulating campaign finance, representing the state in litigation, and approving public bond issues. The attorney general also serves as legal counsel to all boards and agencies of state government. Furthermore, the attorney general is charged with issuing all legal opinions upon request from the governor or heads of state agencies. Finally, the attorney general defends challenges to state law and suits against agencies and or state employees. The attorney general serves a four-year term with no limit on the number of terms served. The salary of this position is estimated at $150,000.
