Made up of 35 members, the Colorado Senate is the upper house of the Colorado General Assembly. Each Senator represents a district of about 149,691 residents, serving 4 year terms that are limited to 2 consecutive terms in office. The President of the Colorado Senate is the preciding officer of the upper house. A Join Budget Committee with members from both the Senate and House prepares and introduces the yearly budget bill to the General Assembly after the governor submits to them a proposed budget. Currently, there are 10 Senate Committees of Reference that range from argiculture to transporation. Primary responsibilities of a senator include: developing budget packages, making taxation decisions, passing legislation, allocating spending, and redistricting in collaboration with other senators and the house of representatives. The yearly salary for Colorado State Senators is $30,000.
