The Wyoming Superintendent of Public Instruction is an elected executive position in the Wyoming state government. The superintendent is the chief education officer in the state, though from January 2013 until April 2014, the superintendent's role was changed to be largely ceremonial under a state law that was later found to be unconstitutional. A new law signed in January 2013 replaced the superintendent as head of the state Department of Education with a director appointed by the governor. The position of superintendent remained but no longer as head of the DOE. Then-Superintendent Cindy Hill filed an ultimately successful lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the measure. The salary for this position is $92,000/year.
