Description

The North Carolina Commissioner of Agriculture is a state executive position in the North Carolina state government. The commissioner is the head of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and is a member of the Council of State. The commissioner is in charge of the 1,400+ employees and 24 divisions that make up the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Their primary goal is "maintaining and enhancing the ability of agriculture to produce an adequate supply of food and fiber in North Carolina," as well as enforcing regulatory programs. The salary for this position is $124,676/year.

1) Contact the North Carolina State Board of Elections to confirm that your registered address qualifies you for the position you intend to run for, and that you meet other office specific qualifications. Gather the appropriate candidacy filing petition from the North Carolina State Board of Elections or your county board of elections. County boards are the filing agency for State Senators, Members of the State House of Representatives and all county and local/municipal offices. For all other offices, the petitions are to be filed with the North Carolina State Board of Elections. 2) To run for office by petition, you must first file a Petition request from your applicable filing office. The number of signatures, deadlines and other information can be found here: http://ncsbe.azurewebsites.net/petition-info. 3) If you are running in a multi county district, nomination petitions are due to County Election Boards (CBEs) for authentication 15 days before they are due to the North Carolina State Board of Election. If you are running in a single county district, you must submit all filing forms to your local County Election Board accompanied with authenticated nominating papers by the last Friday in June in order to appear on the general election ballot in November.
