The Ohio State House of Representatives is the lower house of the bicameral Ohio State Legislature. The House has 99 members, who each represent one district, which results in about 116,530 constituents per representative. Primary responsibilities of a house representative include, developing budget packages, making taxation decisions, passing legislation, allocating spending, and redistricting in collaboration with other house members and the state senate. Additionally, the house has the exclusive authority to impeach state officials, who will then be tried by the senate. A house member serves a two-year term, with a limit of 4 terms. The salary of the position is $60,584 per year.
Application Guidelines1) Contact the Ohio Secretary of State Elections Office to confirm that your registered address qualifies you for the position you intend to run for, and that you meet other office specific qualifications. 2) Complete the required filing forms and submit the filing forms to the Ohio Secretary of State Elections Office. The required forms include a Declaration of Candidacy; a filing fee; Petitions; and other office specific forms. The filing fee and petition requirements vary by office. Please inquire about these office specific requirements with the elections office. File these papers as directed by the elections office, which may vary depending upon the type of district you plan to run in. If the district encompasses a single part of a county, you will file with the county. If the district has parts of multiple counties you will file with the Ohio Secretary of State Elections Office. 3) Submit the filing forms by the 90th day before the Ohio primary election if you intend to appear on a partisan primary ballot. If you plan to run as an independent or in a non partisan race, submit the filing forms prior to the day of the Ohio primary in order to appear on the general election ballot. The Ohio primary is held the second Tuesday after the first Monday in March during presidential years, and in all other years the Ohio primary is held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in the month of May.
